The lad’s been a huge disappointment since joining from Audax Italiano. Especially after we all, including a certain Mr Ince, saw the YouTube videos of him playing in the fast paced and highly competitive Chilean league.

I’ll be honest, I’d have liked to have seen him given a few more starts. As a player coming in to a whole new culture and someone who doesn’t speak a word of the Queen’s, he must have found it difficult to settle and with only playing the odd cup game and getting the odd 20 minutes as a substitute he was never going to bed into the side and find the rhythm he may be capable of.

I am a little dubious as to the validity of the ‘offers’ made by two ‘unnamed clubs’. If I was in Audax’s position and hoping Rovers were about to throw £3-million our way I think I would make a rumour that someone else was about to jump in and sign them so as to make them act fast.

Unfortunately I don’t think Big Sam rates him at all and don’t expect to see him with us next season, whether we stay in the Premiership or not!

Here’s one of those videos, it has to be said he does look fucking amazing!

Last night saw Rovers almost humiliated in what was one of the worst efforts by a reserve side to impress their manager and force him to put them into the first team.

Big Sam made 11 changes to his starting side. With only two first teamers on the bench in Roberts and Andrews with Mokoena, usually a sub, starting.

Here’s the squad if you didn’t see it:

Mark Bunn, Danny Simpson, Martin Olsson, Aaron Mokoena, Zurab Khizanishvilli (capt), Alan Judge, Keith Treacy, Johann Vogel (or Fogel as Sky had him for a while), Vince Grella, Carlos Villanueva, Matt Derbyshire. Subs: Keith Andrews, Jason Roberts, Bryan Hodge, Gavin Gunning, Aaron Doran, Andrew Haworth, Jason Brown.

What a shower.

We controlled the first half but struggled to break down their defence, Matt Derbyshire had a goal ruled out when he was clearly offside. His over head kick miscued and cannoned in off a defender’s face. Not pretty at all.

We had plenty of shots in the first half but players were all too keen to hit long range efforts, often skidding wide, Treacle and Villanueva guilty on several occasions, although one of Treacy’s efforts forced a good save from Blyth’s impressive keeper Bell.

We could well have scored a hat full if they didn’t keep unleashing it from outside the area and actually tried to break down the defence!

Carlos’ wonderful second half free kick was about the only useful thing he did all game, I reckon he probably cemented his place on a plane back to Chile with his performance.

Despite a late close shave when A Player of Blyth Spartans hit wide when he should have hit the target we managed to hold on for the win. I have to say, the Spartans’ spirit deserved an Ewood Park replay, which would have been a fantastic day out for their lads. But it wasn’t to be and we hung on.

I have to say I was furious with our display. 118 league places separate our to clubs and we struggled. Granted we should have been 8-0 up by half time and Sam had put out a complete reserve side, this was far from impressive.

The Blue Square North side can feel aggrieved, although I don’t think their performance over the 90 minutes was deserving of a result for them, and I hope the confidence they should take out of this match will save them in their relegation battle.

The game highlighted our current crop of youngsters are not good enough. Especially Treacle, he’s shit. Get him sold to a Championship club. Vince Grella didn’t look as good as I’ve seen him in the past, but I still rate him and hope he gets some Premiership action soon.

As I said, Villanueva missed his chance to make an impression, despite scoring the games only goal he did nothing else whatsoever. Vogel also looked poor.

I often stick up for Keith Andrews but his miss from close range would have put us out of sight in the latter stages of the game.

So there you have it. The worst win I think I’ve ever seen. If that makes any sense at all…
