What I’ve heard about PNE away

Rovers lost 3-0 at Preston last night.

We shouldn’t really take too much from the result, as it was a friendly afterall, but a 3-0 defeat is slightly worrying.

I was unable to make the game as I was on the late shift at work, but what I have heard is this:

It was the worst game of football ever. Probably.

Keith Andrews was head and shoulders the best player, the majority not looking even remotely interested.

Dunny and Pedersen looked as though they were still on holiday.

Allardyce was there. There was some talk that he was absent yet again, as he was at Fleetwood on Saturday. That turned out to be wrong.

Keith Treacy skinned Salgado on a number of occasions.

Brazilian trialist Rodrigo Branco looked lively. Hopefully see more of this kid in future.

We need a new striker. Junior Hoilett can’t do the job on his own. Big Sam has admitted this in today’s Telegraph.

Rovers fans outnumbered heavily the PNE faithful, outsinging them throughout, even with the score at 0-3.

A win at Huddersfield tonight and the PNE result is forgotten about.

  1. rob Said,

andrews was not by far the best player ….. he couldnt string a pass together !!! your right about everything else tho, you missed the point that there were twice as many rovers fans than preston fans aswell !!! piss poor pne !!

  2. Joe Said,

Yeah worst game ever for Blackburn, Good performance from PNE, though only a friendly like you say. Doesn’t tell either manager anything really.

  3. Vinjay Said,

Not happy losing to any team managed by that wife beating thug but bad results in pre season mean little as you say. Quite sure Newcastle lost 6-1 to perhaps Leyton Orient last year so bizarre things can happen. Nobody should see it as any kind of warning sign.

  4. roversreturn Said,

Cheers rob. Your crowd comment has been added :-)

  5. Vinjay Said,

Crowd thing is no big deal. Just shows that any new owner should be looking at areas like Preston as a potential catchment area.

It is actually a little disturbing though as it also suggests that Rovers fans saw it as a bigger game than the Preston supporters did. Maybe a few mentality issues I’ve talked about quite often in the past.

Personally I only viewed it as a big game because of the chance to give Darren Ferguson a thrashing.

  6. rob Said,

    thanks mate appreciate the addition………

in reallity it was, what it was…… a pre season friendly, a night out, a bit of fun for the fans and a run out for the lads, after a long summer of no rovers? we were in full voice, and regardless of the result……… we are very much a premiership team….. have faith guys

  7. Rog Said,

Those who say “it doesn’t matter, its only a pre season friendly” should be worried that we were absolutely terrible and that does matter. Treasy played more like a premiership player than any of ours. I don’t think the Rovers fans outnumbered the PNE ones, who were just more spread out, down both sides of the pitch, compared with Rovers fans all concentrated at one end. The PNE fans did chant, especially after Robinson let in each goal, “Englands number one, are you watching Fabio” ouch! and “Are you Burnley in disguise?” (Burnley play with more commitment than our players had last night) I see Juniors potential as an attacking winger, not a striker.

  8. roversreturn Said,

Hi Rog, I agree about Junior. He’s definitely more attacking midfield/wing, but expect to see him pushed into a striker role if our striker shortage continues,

Whether that would be beneficial to his development, only time will tell.

  9. PNE Guest Said,

As a North End fan I actually also agree you can’t take much away from this result, but to be fair I would take them week in week out in the league! I thought North End look a much more physical team than last year and we did seem more up for it than you, but to be fair Chorley and Brig were more up for it than PNE when we played them.

Yes your fans did out sing us but your maths need looking at. The shankly holds 3000 and you barely filled a third. I would say there were 1000ish blackburn in a crowd of 5000 so how you seem to say you out numbered us is intrigueing. There will probably be 15,000 or so for the Everton game on saturday if that says anything to you

  10. PNE Guest2 Said,

Correction – Shankly holds 6000 so you can allow Rovers 2,000 on the night.

Although a season ticket holder, I couldn’t be bothered with this one – can’t imagine why anyone (from either side) would view it as important or worrying – it’s just part of pre-season!
