Many Thanks for a very fine tribute to my Uncle Tom.
My Dad Sydney was Tom's younger brother, the last time I saw Tom was when he had come through to Barrow (Where we lived at the time) to visit and also to watch my two brothers and I play Rugby League for Walney Central. Dad had taken Tom to a Pub across the road from our ground where he was recognised by an old boy in there so all that Tom & Dad saw of our game was us walking off the pitch at the end of the game. The old boy rang up some of his mates who all came to the pub and had Tom telling tales of his games for Rovers - best afternoon in the pub for years!
As you say, they don't make them like that anymore.

Fantastic Brian. Wish I could have seen him, along with some other greats from that era and the 60s. Did you see him hit his seven?

Having done some working out, He was only just behind Alan Shearer's goals per game ratio. Now that was impressive.

Spot on I am lucky enough to have been able to watch him at his prime and a true centre forward in all senses. What an incredible return of goals to games, What would we give for that today ?
